I heard there is a man in the north of Ireland that restores John Deedre's if anyone has his details it would be great.

if your any way mechaniclaly minded and make sure your work area is spotless there is no reason you couldnt do that yourself if you got a kit from a supplier like Steiner tractor parts.. what problem are you having with the carb?

    Hi thanks for the reply,
Here's what should happen.... when the petrol is turned on it should flow and using pressure push open a small valve to fill the chamber, the buterflies are moving up and down in the chamber and when the chamber fills with petrol the butterflies should rise and push against a stopper to stop the petrol, so thats the way it should work but its not,
So.... when I turn the petrol on the chamber doesn't fill until I give the carb a tap and then the valve drops down and the petrol flows, now the chamber is flooding, no matter how many times I adjust the butterrflies the chamber just keeps overflowing, I know it sounds really simple but its not!

ah, common enough problem, it sounds like a sticking float.. Ive seen loads of them stiick open causing petrol to overflow out of the carb but they can get stuck closed too.. If you can source a new float and fit it without bending, twisting or damaging in any way that should sort it (they are made of light brass and very sensitive) and also blow out the chamber with air and make sure no lodged dirt..
