    Hi all,

My mother recently got a quote from Dún Laoghaire Gas to replace her 25-year-old Potterton Kingfisher boiler with a Ravenheat CSI85AAA 780 series, at a cost of €2000. When I met the engineer today, he told me that the max flue length is 2.5 meters, and that the boiler will emit a constant plume of steam when running. Given that the boiler is under a wooden conservatory, this means that the vapour would be exiting very close to the white painted conservatory wall. Are boilers available that will accept a longer flue to get the outlet to a more suitable place? Are there better boilers out there than the Ravenheat? And what do you all think of the price? Thanks!

2.5m sounds short to me. I dont know the specs for the maximum flue length for the Ravenheat but it dose sound short. Most others are 5m. Can you upload pics of where the termination site will be?

All condensing boilers will accept more than 2.5m flue pipe. Check the home page of the manufacturer, look for the installation manual.
The seller could mean with his statement that a max. length of 2.5m flue pipe can be incuded in the fixed price......

Thanks for that, 5m would give us a lot more options. I can take pics, but it'll be tomorrow. Should have thought of that today really!

I had a look at the brochure, and it does say that 'The CSI85AAA requires a standard 1metre horizontal flue kit, or a vertical accessory flue kit which can be extended to 2.5 metres horizontal or 3.5 metres vertical. The flue arrangements illustrated should fit most requirements, however alternative systems (twin or 125mm) are available for longer flue distances on request (Flues sold separately)'.

That could well be the case, he seemed a lot more interested in what was easy to install rather than what was best for us.

At the end of the day you have the last word and if you are not happy with the arrangements with this particular boiler ask for another or get more quotes for a different one.

It's only a B rated boiler as well in case you didn't know.

why go with ravenheat then ?
many other boilers in that price range available with Plume management kits

worchester Bosch , dimplex etc all available at that price

Worcester, Viessmann, Ariston all have 5 year parts and labour warranties too.

I've never worked on a ravenheat but they look like those arca boilers -Italian made

are you still allowed install b rated boilers ? I thought that stopped in June ?

It does say in the brochure that it's band A rated? Can anyone tell me who make the best boilers, in terms of quality & reliability? Also, will any condensing boiler pump out the same amount of vapour, or are some better than others?

IMO worchester Bosch are pretty much as good as you get.you can get up to 7 years warranty if you go with an approved installer.( 7 years on cdi models at the moment) they are a bit dearer but you get what you pay for!

As Jedstaff said Worcester and Viessmann are about the best out there, and as he also stated you get what you pay for.

The all give off the same amount of vapour and it's worse in the winter.

Thanks for everything so far. Can anyone recommend a professional, keenly-priced installer for Viessmann/Worcester Bosch?

Thanks for that. What i'm really looking for are recommendations for installers that people here know personally to be professional and trustworthy - by PM is fine.

@ Mods - I've read the charter and this seems ok - feel free to let me know/delete if not.

For Viessmann go to www.viessmann.co.uk and click Installer network, click region and click Ireland. Or call Precision Heating Who are the agents in Ireland 018091571.
