Hi, I'm just wondering if you have to select an optional module in Common Entry. I have a choice Between PS122, PS123 and PS128.

Also does selecting/nor selecting one of these modules affect what course you can choose at the end of the year of Coomon Entry to Science.

    I am a bit confused.

    Thanks,
    DanDan

I chose the year long course.

By the looks of things the 2 half modules are theory based. There is 80% exams and 20 continuous assessement
The long one is labs. and this is 100% continous assessment..and no exams

I chose the year long one because I think I would be better with a lab worK

and i can't answer ur last query.. but i dont think it makes a difference?? i hope it doesnt anyway

When i was doing common entry i did'nt get an option, i had to do ps122 & ps123.
I dont think the lab is ps128 as the user said above..Check it on the website just to make sure because it was ps153 when i was doing it.

PS122 and PS123 are just leaving cert standard physics. So if you have done Physics for the leaving you will fly these. You will have three 45min lectures per week.

You'll do both ps122 and 123. Never heard of ps128 though

PS122 is physics for the first semester. It's mechanics etc, you'll get a test on it for Christmas.

PS123 is physics for th 2nd semester. Magnetism etc, you'll get a test on it for summer.

Hey. It's 100% CA, only 30%. 70% of it is exams.

This is PS128 here, also known as Physics 1 http://www.dcu.ie/registry/module_contents.php?function=2&subcode=PS128

Cool thanks. I'll prob do PS122 and 123 as I've never done Physics and the other one looks harder. I just wanted to make sure it doesnt have an bearing in what you can choose in 2nd year :)

You probably chose to do 128 as it's optional (for me anyway). Are you doing Common Entry to Science?

I was a rep for SE last year and this was discussed at the SE management meeting. As far as I'm aware, PS122 and PS123 are both one-semester 5 credit modules, and PS128 is a year-long 10 credit module. I'm not 100% sure of this, but I think the material covered is the same in both the 5 credit modules and the 10 credit module

This means, when you're registering, you pick either PS122 AND PS123 or you pick PS128 on it's own.

If you pick PS122 and PS123, you'll have 2 exams. PS122 will be in January and PS123 will be in May. If you pick PS128, you'll have one exam in May, but it covers material from September to May.

Hope that helps explain things a bit better

Cool, but what is SE?? Or did you mean CE ? :)

Thats cool though thanks for the info. I let me registration time out, because I didn't know what module to pick so I havent picked any module at the moment haha.
