Hey I recently became unemployed and have registered with FAS. I recently got onto a 6 week course starting in October and then will be doing a 30 week course starting in January. I will be doing welding and metal work . I am just wondering do I have to buy the safety clothing and such ? I dont know what to expect on my first day do I just go in casual, old , or work clothes? Also what is the payment like? I am getting jobseekers allowance at the moment but have been told FAS will be paying me when I start there. Thanks for the help

You should get a letter from FAS with all relevant details. If not, the first day is normally induction and FAS normally provide all the safety gear etc so dont panic. You will have to sign off Welfare and bring a form stamped by welfare on the first day, this form is an F103 and is sent to you by FAS prior to starting the course. This form details the amount of your payment and FAS will match this amount plus extra for travel etc.

Hope this helps and good luck
