Just said I'd put this out there....has anybody here gone to Glasgow and joined a GAA club over? If so, which club did you join and how did it go?

I'm heading over there for a year in a few weeks and would like to join a club (to keep fit at least), but trying to see which one would be best and most accessible to join out of:

    Tir Conaill Harps
    Glasgow Gaels
    Sans McSwiney GAA

There isnt much by the way of info on the net!!!

I will be attending the university of Strathclyde over I probably should add!

    Cheers in advance

I play for Sands MacSwiney's mate, we're a twenty minute train journey from Glasgow city centre. I really enjoy it, the lads are all sound and I really enjoy the training. The Glasgow clubs are good as well and I would recommend them also, although they have decent sized squads, we don't so you would get more game time with us probably. If you need any help or info let me know.

Sands Mac Swiney's? Nice one...and twenty mins aint too bad albeit by train!;) How often would ye train then, and obviously Championship season is nearing a close so I'm guessing there'll be a break for a while before ye start up again?

Do you know is it a case of you can just join away and there'll be no hassle of having to transfer from your home club or what way does it work?

Yeah there's no bother joining from an Irish team.

We train Tuesday and Thursday, 6:30 to about 8:15/8:30pm. I think our pre-season starts about February and season ends around start of October. Good set of lads, from all around the country. Dublin, Armagh, Derry, Down, Meath, Mayo and some Scottish born lads. What county are you from yourself? Good underage set-up as well if you were ever interested in coaching youngsters as well.

Club is named after Bobby Sands and Terence MacSwiney:)

We did an exchange with Tirchonaill Harps, seems to be well run and have a good set-up.

It's Coatdyke the train you get and we play in Dunbeth Park, just off St. Patrick's school (where we change for games etc). I get it for training. Think it starts back up Tuesday. I'd happily show you to training so you get your bearings etc.

Good man.. Might take you up on that. Probably be after Christmas at this stage. I would be coming for Livingston so no hassle getting to Coatbridge from there. Sure I will send you a PM closer to the time if that's ok.

Not heard from him yet, meaning to PM him but seasons training doesn't start until February all the same, a while yet. Fecking dreading it already, some weight to shift:D

Sands/MacSwiney's facebook page for anybody interested. We'll be having our 25th anniversary dinner dance in April, it was supposed to be two months ago but was postponed. It should be a cracking night if the 20th anniversary one was anything to go by.

Just a little bump for anyone who is Irish in Scotland and interested in GAA. We need players over here so any one who is interested is more than welcome.

Are the training times and days still the same? I might be up for it, about time I got back into shape :)

A grand time for training! Is the pitch difficult to find? Granted Coatbridge is probably a small enough town when you know it

No mate, it's two minutes from the train station, you see it as you're stopping it. I don't know Coatbridge at all and I play for the team, all I know is the pitch we train and that's about it:D
