Hi all, im doing a custom installation and need to find a Media Player which has an IR input/output for a IR Eye. Its because I want to put the main unit into a cabinet and the remote wont have line of sight so I need to be able to connect a discreet remote eye into the unit.

Anyone have any suggestions? I cant seem to find anything suitable after a lot of searching.

    Thanks

    D

Don't know of such a thing exists, so you may have to go down the route of using an infrared extender of some sort.

They definitely exist, I've seen one in another persons install but it's not a great unit so I'm hoping there is another kind out there.

Try Popcorn Hour or some of the old Dune players.

None of the cheap players have it, and if you are spending €200+ then you should think about a HTPC with radio remote.

I did consider a HTPC but I don't know anything about them. To expand a bit more the cabinet is the boot of my car ( i said cabinet so not to confuse the issue ) so whatever I put in needs to be small. Any suggestions what and where to buy?

if its a boot build I would reccomend you build a custom HTPC for several reasons.

A mini ITX board is small, compact, Suited to custom enclosures and has low power requirements.
using a PicoPSU which requires (IIRC) a 12v DC input it should be very simple to hook up to a car system.
The system could be easily accessed via a huge number of wireless gadgets including bluetooth, wifi and RF devices.
With skins etc that are available for XBMC you could have some awesome custom displays.
    Touchscreens are also a possibility.
    The list goes on...

As I am woefully crap at tech stuff im hoping there is a place i could buy a system that i can literally plug into the wiring my car electrician is doing. Can anyone recommend a good place to buy complete systems?

    My wishlist is the following:

    Relatively Small Unit
Composite Video Output (the yellow, red and white plugs)
    Minimum 2 USB Ports
Large capacity Hard Drive (1TB minimum)
    Wireless Keyboard and Mouse
    Remote Control
    WiFi Card
    Windows O/S

Hopefully someone out there knows a good place
