A few months back i heard Dublin airport ground control asking this question just before handing the aircraft over to tower, what causes the need to ask this question?

There had been a few incidents where jet aircraft got airborne and flew the non-jet sid. This can be a dangerous situation depending on the traffic at the time. The solution was to ask jet traffic to confirm the 1st way point,eg.OE. OE only appears in the jet sid so in theory the jet traffic should have the jet sid in the fmc.......hope that makes sense!

Ah i knew the smaller prop planes can use separate sids which allow them to deviate from the runway heading over the field,i just couldnt find any info as to why, cheers for the reply.

I believe it was to do with the Air France 747 taking a sharp left after his take off from dublin many a month ago now

The current practice seems to me to be a "sticking plaster" solution. I am not aware that ATC at most other airports deem it necessary to ask for the first waypoint etc. to be satisfied that crews have inputted the correct SID. As an alternative fix, could the Dublin jet SIDs not be given names distinctly different from the prop ones. At the moment a jet SID off 10 is e.g. LIFFY4E, while the prop is LIFFY4F - ripe for confusion, I'd have thought....

Not much of a difference at all, seems like a bit of effort to correct a charts mistake. Is jepp to blame or the iaa? But would be cool to see an af 744 hang an early left over Ballymun from 28

There were also incidents of PESIT sids being selected instead of PELIG and vice versa
