I recently purchased a sony kdl 46 ex 503 tv set with integrated "freeview" (mpeg4)along with a sony bdp s 370 blu ray player. I have a upc external aerial attached to my roof which I no longer use as I converted to sky+ hd. Can I connect my tv to my upc aerial to receive saorview? If so does the aerial require an amplifier and does it need to be repositioned to receive signal? Or do I need to purcase a new external aerial to receive saorview. I really dont want to hang yet another external aerial. Or do I possibly need a pair of internal "rabbits ears" to receive signal. I live in Tralee, County Kerry.

So many nosy questions. Can someone please advise.:)

I hope that new TV is 'Freeview HD' and not just 'Freeview'. You did mention MPEG4 so you're probably ok.

Did you have MMDS or did you receive UPC via Cable?

If you have an external UHF aerial, chances are that it will receive Saorview but if you received your signal from UPC then it was not coming from a UHF aerial.

For Saorview reception you'd be looking at a UHF aerial pointing either to Mulliganish (bearing 130 degrees from Tralee) or to a transponder in Knockmoyle (183 true).

Saorview website says Knockmoyle for Tralee town

Take a look at the houses around you, it should be obvious which direction the aerials are pointing at. Knockmoyle is more or less directly south.

    Cheers Coylemj.

My UPC signal was received via UPC external aerial (MMDS).
My tv set is indeed "Freeview hd". I borrowed a set of "rabbits ears" from my parents and have just performed a digital scan and lo & behold I now have all RTE channels including RTE 2 HD ,News now, etc., and all RTE radio channels.

Many thanks for your advice. All the best.:D
