Winning a football match

particularly when it comes to ireland, talk often turns to tactics. recently everyone is crying out for a new system from trap. giles and brady were making the point the last few nights that a new system is all well and good, but at the end of the day, we have average players.

i believe there's three parts to a team winning a football match:

    1. players ability
    2. mentality (belief, determination, enthusiasm)
    3. tactics

so what do you all think (and not just about ireland, in football in general)? which is more important? how would you rank them?

i'd say something like 50% ability, 30% mentality, 20% tactics.

The more evenly matched two teams are, the more important tactics become.
