Did anyone see see the Nama program last nigh its was okay a bit dramatic in the way prime time sometimes is.

My thread is more about how little power the government has and when you see some of the populist headline garbing nonsenses that the government comes out with I think its a good thing that there power is limited.

Frank Daly ( chairman of Nama ) was asked one time ' you recommend to government that upwards only rents NOT be scraped ' he came back very quickly and said ' I don't recommend anything to government I did a report that pointed out that banning upward only rents would impact negatively on Nama property portfolio. In other words the market diktats everything not the government.

I think the gov must make a decision of who to favour.
The businesses that operate in premises or the landlord.

I would pick the operating business, the gov will probably back there banker and developer buddies.

To me the overall business strategy of NAMA is wrong and a bit confused. Its goal is souly to make a profit in cash terms. So this means if it is selling land for a school for example its to charge the Department of Ed the highest price:confused:. This does not make sence to me the gov should take the land portfolio and use it for schools, parks etc. Public interest should take presidence over trying to screw the taxpayer from both ends.
