USB devices won't open automatically!

    Can someone help here please?

When I insert any USB devices into my laptop, whether it's a USB key or even my ipod, I have to go into 'My Computer' to open it as it won't open automatically after it's inserted.

I think the settings on my laptop need to be changed as the devices work fine and actually open up straight away when plugged into any other computer/ laptop.

This is really annoying so if anyone has a solution I'd really appreciate it.

    Thanks :)

what version of windows are you using Recaro Red??

Edit: If its windows Xp right click on the device you want to edit ad click properties. Click the 'autoplay' tab on the window that pops up to access the options you need.

If its windows 7/ vista do as Deano12345 below says or open control panel and 'autoplay'

    Hope that helps :)

If its in Windows 7, Id say the problem is with your Autoplay settings. Just click on the start menu (windows icon) and its settings are in the 'Default Programs' tab on the right hand side

I try to avoid Vista, and not much exposure to W7, so there may be an easier way.

There's a registry key that controls what types of drive will be autorun.

    See http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/75640-what-are-all-the-different-settings-for-nodrivetypeautorun/

Allowing autoplay on any removable device is a security risk and just plain stupid.

OP is probably wanting to get the autoplay options pop up which gives you options to do with the disc. For e.g if you put a sd card with photos in a card reader it'll pop up with an option to copy photos onto the machine. Also in Windows Vista/7 it is much less a risk, as any task specified in a autorun.inf file isn't automatically executed, and an option to execute that task comes up or an option to browse the media.
Anyways OP, jcoote's reply should help you, make sure "View By: Large icons" is set in control panel if you can't see autoplay settings
