Went out decoying pigeons with a friend today, not many birds around but we managed to bag 4 pigeons , my friend hit all 4 birds, I'm still not used to the new semi auto, couldnt hit a fecking thing with it all day:mad:

Then I got this bunny this evening at 85yds with my .22 CZ452.

Was very windy, managed to hit it and broke its front leg with the shot, little bugger crawled all the way back to the burrow but we managed to retrieve it.

Sorry for the poor image, took it on my phone!

And I have it ready for the pot :D, anyone any nice recipes for it??

John, with a new semi...if I were you I'd pattern it to see is it hitting where you aim. Put a target up at 30 metres and fire (cardboard box etc). If it's hitting the spot ...great.

Then look at the pattern...I'd put in a half choke (modified), usually has *** on the side. In fact that the choke I leave in for most of the year except when hunting snipe & foxes. Try different brand cartridges with it to see what patterns best. I find 6's great with half choke.

Now that thats done and you're hitting the target bang on with a good spread then you know it's not the gun....you then just practice & practice.

When setting out decoys set them about 30 metres out (measure it...you'd be surprised how near 30 metres is.) Too many lads put the pattern out too far...at 45 metres and then just prick or wound incoming birds.

Sound advice from J.R there John.. You could try a few clays to get your eye in on the gun too!!!

Cheers for that info JR, I have the modified choke in at the moment so I'l do what you said and I'm gonna hit a few clays too, need all the practice I can get.

I hit my first pigeon the other evening and he ended up in a huge ditch and was unable to retrieve it, I was sick :(

    Cheers for the advice folks,
    John

I'am the same got my Gun last week have been out most evenings as I am working and can't hit anything clipped a pigeon Tuesday but it went down in the bushes I'am convinced the Birds in Monasterevin are laughing at me if my Family was waiting on me to bring home the dinner we would starve going Clay shooting to a friends land the weekend.
