Four gate pains

    Ok I have played played eight games and out of those seven were protoss and I also main protoss. My problem is that I am sick of using the 4 gate opening and if I dont I just get four gated. So are there any builds which I can use that can atleast hold it off.

    3-gate robo is a good way to defend against it.

    Do you not know what team liquid is?, there is 4-5 threads on the strat forum with the common builds to hold a 4gate, mc defensive 3gate, geikos anti 4gate thing, 3 stalker rush, tylers 10gate fast robo and naniwas robo build, also tod has one where you build your 2nd and 3rd gate at the ramp to prevent a ramp bust.

    i typed in 4 gate into the search bar and found it in seconds.

    I dunno what your level is but im willing to bet simply better build execution on your behalf and better FFs and micro will beat what the type of 4gate your coming up against

    Hmmm I am not sure about the 3 gate robo. The purpose of the 3 gate robo is to get fast immortals but this delays any other tech and if your opponent has gone zealots and stalkers for the four gate then the usefullnes of the immortals would be diminished not to mention that you could run low on gas unless an expansion is established assuming chrono on the immortals. Also since any other tech will have to be delayed you will have to win on the first push otherwise his more advanced tech gives him a huge advantage e.g. blink is major when only producing teir 1 and 2 units.

    And yes I do know what team liquid is, but then why not post everything there. You are right about my play though I am currently a silver league player and have been practising nothing but my macro which is the strongest point of my play. However my unit control is lacking. I can micro stalkers with blink but other than that I have trouble.

    3 gate robo can work but you need to hold your ramp with sentries and its very time sensitive immortal will destroy stalker even just 1 or 2 of them and if they dont attack it leaves you up to do a very strong timing attack once you get 2 colossus and 2/3 immortals.
    If you wanna practice 4 gate defensive catch me whenever you see me on saini 996.
    I was gold but i would say i am bout silver now since haven't played in ages.

    Quick question, if I go 3-gate robo and barely defend the four gate attack should I transition into collosi or try to mass immortals and attack. In both of these I would expand as soon as the attack fails.

    Since you're silver, their 4gates are going to be bad but your defense is also going to be not so stellar. You can hold a 4g with both 3g robo and gate/robo/2 gates, the first requires a fast 2nd gas and sentries, the second requires a double chroned immortal and your timing window is about... 15 seconds to get it out in time both die if they manage to get a pylon up beside ramp/on top. Just Korean 4G, I guarantee that they're going to **** up their defense below masters.

    The Three Rules of Day[9].

    1. Probes and Pylons.

    2. Expand behind an attack.

    3. If he is doing some weird **** go ****ing kill him.

    So after you defend send your army to his base, just gently prod him, if he is doing something weird, kill him! If he has an army bigger than yours, just retreat and defend the expansion you just put up.

    EDIT: NeoSlicerz, so the advice you are giving him is to 4-gate a 4-gater, when his OP was about breaking the 4-gate cycle?

    3 stalker rush is pobably your best bet. Just make sure to take out any proxy pylons and then harass his main

    Note that I recommended two other openings, both of which are 3g robo but play out very differently. The problem with doing a non defensive 4g build is that it's just damn hard to defend unless you have perfect execution and even then it's very unforgiving. A K4G isn't used so much now and because of that is a virtual guaranteed win.
