Dangerous Plumber

    I've seen it all now.
Just back from a call out to investigate strange sounds from a boiler. Turns out it's not the boiler.
They got a Latvian plumber (so called) in a couple of months ago to give them better pressure at the taps.
So after a bit of investigation and some interrogation I discovered to my horror that he put an expansion vessel on the open vent on the cylinder in the attic and connected the mains onto the cold feed and the cylinder feed, hence sealing the entire system:eek:.

The noise they where hearing was the cylinder blowing up like a balloon, How it did not explode I do not know.

I isolated and drained it for them tonight just to make sure it did not explode, and I have organised a college to rectify the installation for them. I'm too busy.

For all the home owners reading this, PLEASE be careful who you let into your home to do work. This is a very dangerous incident and could have turned out nasty and if you have doubts youtube exploding hot water cylinder to see the affects.

Or else watch the episode of Mythbusters where the explode a water cyinder up through a mocked up house and it rockets nearly 500 feet up into the air, from the pressure release and explosion.

Johnnie ,I've experience of so called latvian builders myself. What I seen was beyond criminal ,the whole back supporting wall of a house was knoocked down and it was only when the homeowner pointed out the obvious was there a support put up.

    Lunatics out there altogether.
