Has anybody here ever drove a diesel Golf GTi 2008+..

I'm thinking of buying one, they seem to be rear enough in Ireland. I was looking into prices in the UK where they are alot cheaper, but the VRT is an absolute killer.. Found this one on done deal:

I thought the GT's were all 2 litres.. Does this mean this car is just a replica or something as it is listed as a 1.9???

Any opinions ye guys have on this car or diesel GT's in general would be greatly appreciated!

That's a spec. GT Sport had all the engines bar the 2 litre Turbo petrol, 1.4tsi 170 and 2 litre 170 diesel and replaced the sportline spec. The Golf GT had the two 170's and the GTi had the 2 litre petrol.

Te car linked just has GTi replica wheels on an otherwise standard 1.9tdi GT Sport.

Isn't GT supposed to mean Grand Touring? Like for driving long distances?

thats the literal translation, but going back to its origins i think it would be more comfortable to drive across europe in an old school passat then a mk1 16v bean can, GTI = performance hatch.....

And Sport suggests exactly that yet they fitted both a Golf Sportline and Golf GT Sport with a 75bhp/80bhp 1.4 engine. At the end of the day they are only trim levels.

Op, I have a 2008 golf gt sport 2.0tdi 140. Its pretty good, fast enough for most overtaking situations. I've done 22,000 miles in 10 months and its averaged 47 mpg for me with a good mix of urban and extra urban driving. No problems with it so far, has 50,000 miles. Mine has 18's on it so isn't the most comfortable on our roads. If youre buying it for the speed i'd look elsewhere although theyre supposed to be pretty good with a remap!

Is the first guy having a laugh, €11,500 for an almost 7 year old diesel Golf. Some people need to get a reality check. Also that driver's seat looks a bit worn to me for something that has only covered 66k miles. Either that or it is poor quality leather.
