I've a site on the west coast and it is surrounded with traditional stone walls and I'd like to somehow incorporate them into the design and/or finish of the house. Is anyone aware of any examples where this has been done already?

Apologies Mods, think I put this in the wrong sub-forum. Can it be moved to Contruction & Planning?

It is quite common to see the external stone finishes replicated in residential and commercial buildings (hotels, shops, B&Bs etc) throughout the west. A casual ramble around Barna and Connemara will provide lots of inspiration.

There are other options like running a spine wall (or a few) that appear continuous from inside to outside. A good arch can achieve a much better look/style than a blanket of stone wall (often not wrapped around the sides!), something that was not really a vernacular option as the driving rain would'nt have suited it.

Why not consider really using the site by contouring the building into the site. Glass/stone/timber on the sides that are shown, heather roof, retaining walls holding back the earthen sides. It helps if you have a sloped site.
