Which grip do you use ?

I have just started reading a new book that has started to steer me away from the interlocking grip that I have been using forever. This grip can force the club into the palms, ruining the hands' ability to swing freely throughout the swing. I agree with this and wear through golf gloves goodo on the palm.

The Vardon overlapping seems to be the most common grip with the overlapping finger.

Finally the Baseball or 10 finger grip is said to help average goflers lacking natural talent and power. Sounds harsh but they also state that many many players are reverting to this grip and urge people to give it a try.

I haven't tried either the Vardon or Baseball yet but am willing to put in a bit of work to see which one I can work with the easiest.

What grips do you all use out there and has anyone changed from one to the other to good effect ?

I had the baseball grip for my first 6 or 7 years of playing. Then switched to the interlocking which felt really weird at first but I wouldn't change back. Would also like to know advantages disadvantages of using overlapping vs interlocking?

    Two-Handed Baseball Grip
I tried the interlocking grip quite a few times but could never get it working that well for me. I don't know why, but I never feel like I have complete control of the club when using it, and end up tending to hit fades and even slices. The baseball grip on the other hand was almost completely the opposite. It feels like it causes way too much hand action through impact and I generally hit a lot of hooks using it. So the vardon is perfect for me. I think the size of your hands has a lot to do with which will work best for you.

15 years of Vardon then changed to baseball grip as I noticed that I had better wrist control with the Baseball grip so been using that for the last 5 or so. (and dropped 9 shots)

    /edit
Actually now that I think about it, I found that I cocked my wrists more with the 10 finger grip than with the Vardon.
As a consequence I'm hitting the ball (significantly) further.

Baseball all the time especially when swinging a bat, hurl, axe etc. Tried to change but if feels un-natural and as if the club is loose in my hands and is going to go flying.

    I don't think there are any advantages/disadvantages.
Most pros use the overlapping but then Tiger Woods uses interlocking.

I think that interlocking is supposed to be more suitable for those with smaller hands.

Baseball is then supposed to be used by older players or those with less power.

But I guess it's down to each individual to use their perferrred grip and there are no hard and fast rules about which one to use.

I started golf (35 years ago  ) with the interlocking grip.

About 15 years ago I tried the baseball grip and won golfer of the year and dropped 6 shots in h'cap to 9.

My hands would be slightly smaller than average and I found I had much more power and was easier to uncock the hammer of my wrists.

But when things go bad Mister Hook rears his ugly head.

I've only used the baseball grip now when I want to shake things up and get out of a rut...might try it now actually :)

Thinking off trying the 10 finger (baseball) grip after about 40 years of Vardon, feels better with cleaner hit etc. Play off 9 and wonder is it a mistake to change at this stage.

Found this old thread and wonder if GreeBo & Nemesis in particular are still happy with it?

    Thanks

I feel like I turn my hands over far more efficiently with the baseball grip. Also can release later so hit a nice bit further. I found I had a tendency to chicken wing a bit if I didn't release fully while I was learning and it was trying to get that out of my swing I went to the baseball grip. I still interlock for putting though.

    Thanks Kace!
My brain was crying out for another golfing conundrum :)
Out the back garden I go to try other grips!

Very surprised to see interlocking grip lead the poll. Use interlock myself but though I was the minority.
