Hi, I was driving today, over the space of a couple of hours I noticed car was having trouble getting In gears, it became gradually worse to the extent only third would work and just about, not even reverse, however I can run through all gears when engine is switched off, I can then start the car in the gear I need to move I.e reverse or first, but then it won't select gears again if I try to change as engine is turned on, can anyone help could it be gear linkages, clutch or even gearbox itself? too expensive to replace tbh, car is a 2001 Mitsubishi evo, would be grateful for any sort of help or feedback...

I'd suspect the clutch, and being an Evo with 4wd etc. it won't be a simple nor cheap fix.

Don't think it's that as it was only replaced 800 miles ago...

I'd say clutch or clutch linkage.

Agree the symptoms are clutch not disengaging, how is the clutch operated on the Evo? Cable or hydraulic? Look at that first.
