Ryanair now offering Seat Selection

Not exactly breaking news (or groundbreaking news, for that matter) but might be of interest to some.
Ryanair have recently introduced a reserved seating service trial on the following routes.
    FLIGHTS TO/FROM

    London Stansted - Dublin
    London Stansted - Malaga
    London Stansted - Canary Islands
    Dublin - Canary Islands
    Dublin - Ibiza
    Dublin - Malaga
    Dublin – London Gatwick
    Dublin - Faro
    Dublin - Malta
This pre-booked service costs just €10/€10 (each way) and includes priority boarding.

Passengers can pre-reserve seats in the front two rows of the aircraft, for prompt exit on arrival, or in the over wing seats (Rows 16 & 17) for extra legroom. Reserved seating can be booked when you check-in online or via a Ryanair call centre at the rate of £10/€10.

It's already live AFAIK, wouldn't bother with it myself personally. Would kinda defeat the purpose of getting a Prepaid Mastercard to avoid Ryanair fees then to go and add €10 per journey to pick which plastic yellow seat in which to suffer!!

You just know some people will feel they deserve those seats and grab em first even though you paid for em and then cause a scene when you tell em to remove themselfs.

Not worth the hassle in my opinion.

as far as I know, the flight crew put reserved signs on the seats so people shouldn't take them! And as there is priority boarding, most people won't even be on the plane!

The one advantage of it is that tall people can avoid suffering by being able to book the emergency rows in advance which have more leg room.
For those longer routes like Dublin-Malta, (gangly) people would gladly pay a tenner for the extra comfort.

You would almost be sure they would sell out the emergency rows on every flight offered.
So for them thats 12 seats * €10 or €120 a flight for doing next to nothing, on top of the others paying for standard priority boarding for the unreserved seats.

Wouldnt bother with it for a short fight, which are the ones i mostly use Ryanair for.
But €10 for extra legroom on a 4 hour flight is well worth it for me, being 6'2".

At the same time, as far as i know all seats are fixed on Ryanair planes so my kneecaps are usually safe from seats being pushed back at 100 mph.

I took a look when booking flights a couple of weeks ago (flights in middle and end of oct) and the seats were already gone! Or at least the window and aisle seats were. Who wants to be stuck in the middle of strangers...

I'll stick with the priority boarding for now thanks!

Me!. . .well, when flying alone, which I do an awful lot. I love it, I'm regularly in the last 5 people on the plane and 9 times out of 10 I'll get the second row, middle seat and shove the bag under the seat in front. Head in a book for the next 40-50 mins and then I'm off that plane in 4.23 seconds when it lands.

I won't be paying extra when my system already works :D

flying alone is the key factor there. I'll have a baby with me for flights next month!

t'is completely dependent on flying alone. the missus tags along and ruins the system every now and again

Well that's the end of 100% record of getting Emergency exit rows on Ryanair flights

The trick was to board via the rear stairs and just walk up the cabin and low and behold no one was in the Emergency row, I even boarded last on a packed flight in Frankfurt (Hahn) once and got the exit row.

But what happens if a feeble senior citizen or a 10 year old has the Emergency exit rows booked and paid for ?

wouldnt it be the same as every any other airline?

no kids and no feeble people allowed in the exit rows as all people there need to be able to evacuate quickly and open the doors if necessary.

Seeing as they are on priority boarding they'll still have a half plane empty where they can move to should they need to be relocated .

Put the baby in the hold.

Then I'd have to buy an airline approved cage and I don't think Ryanair accept carriage of animals anyway.

The system won't let anyone under 16 choose an emergency exit row.. and "a feeble senior citizen" will just be moved if they sit here, as per terms and conditons.

"Passengers with reduced mobility, blind/visual impairment or special assistance requirements**or who are under the age of 16 years are not permitted to sit in emergency exit rows.

To sit in an emergency exit seat you must be*:

16 years of age or older
Willing and able to help in the event of an emergency
    Not traveling with an infant
Not using a seat belt extender (which could get tangled in an emergency)

No refunds of the fee will be processed if customers are unable to utilise their reserved seat for one of the above reasons"
    . . taken from Ryanair T&C
