Like a lot of people here i haven't heard back from the btea and vec (registration fees). am i expected to pay the 2000 euro reg fee now or is there anyway to wait till i hear back from the vec.
The dead lines are close approaching and there is mention of penalty fines for not paying the registration fee by a certain date.
also if i dont pay the registration fee they wont give me the confirmation letter i need for the btea.

Talk to your fees office, some of them will offer alternatives. Explain that you need the letter for the BTEA, they may be flexible.

The other option is to pay the 2k now. If you're entitled to the fees through the grant, you will be refunded by the university/college shortly after they receive them from the council. If you are not entitled to the grant, then you will be liable for the late fee on top of the 2k.

i rang vec on friday just to see if they could tell me over the phone if i was entitled to reg. fee's.they came back to me within 2 mins to confirm i had got it and i received the letter this morn.
apparently everyone is understaffed these daysrolleyes.gif
two wks ago i was lucky to get a very obliging girl in the SWO to have a look at my BTEA app it seems a phone calls wouldnt go astray with these departments

i borrowed some money and payed the dam thing off. very disappointed with the way the grant/btea is being handled.
i am amazed how people manage to get money out of them at all.

Are you only entitled to the registraiton fees if you are entitled to a grant? I was looking at studentfinance.ie and got very confused?!?! Also how are you expected to pay it up front if you are on BTEA?

If you get a grant they pay the 2000 Student Contribution (registration fee) in most cases. If you are on BTEA you can apply for a fee grant to get the student contribution fee paid.

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

Ask the VEC / Local Authority for confirmation of your application for the grant.

BETA does not cover the registration fees so there is no need to show BETA to the college for the registration waiver.

Most, not all colleges will accept the acknowledgement, some will want actual confirmation of the award.

will i get refunded the 2 grand by the college if i get the registration fees from the vec grant, because its still being processed by the vec,
do the vec send a cheque or what.

yes they'll refund it to your bank account which you would have given them details of at registration.
