going to dispose of the stock bull
been quoted 85p/lb (2.38c/kg by my reckoning)
seems terribly low price... i thought it would be more similar to cow prices
    he's a saler btw

we are thinking of getting rid of our angus stock bull , he is massive , but his heifers will be coming through and tbh he needs to go on a diet, he is quiet and never gave trouble but if we can turn him in to cash and not have to winter him , so be it

sold a bull to a lad last week he said the lad he was replacing killed out at 730kgs dead and made over E1700 so 85p sound about right i suppose

Mart, should be able to match factory price at the very least.

    update

well his carcass weighed in at 560kg, R+2. He had been on a diet. actually got more like 90pence/lb and made over 1200e
apparently caused a bit of fuss at the factory too.
ok... but 1500e would of been nicer

sent a cow too that failed to have a calf in the spring that had only grass feeding. 360kg, O3 and made over 1000e
    fairly happy with that.

What's his breeding? Do you run him with the dairy herd or just the purebreds?

If the seat's wet, sit on yer hat, a cool head is better than a wet ar5e.

Ouch, hmm that story seems to be well spun about animals getting cross at slaughter house

Mart would have returned a good bit more. I gave €1500 for a similar Simi bull than will grade a U last week and saw another 6 yr old Ch bull at 850kgs make 1820:eek:

if he only killed out 50% he must have been over a ton live, you were robbed as charles said that bull in mart would have made a lot more,1500-1800 euro unless he was just all frame and not fit to kill.

@ 560 kgs DW, if you got 90P/lb he would have made 1425 ,

grading R2 is he would have been a ideal animal for further feeding

@ 560kgs DW, would you be able to find a buyer if you put a proper finish on him:D:D.

Ah leg wax think your a small bit high in your price as he is a 5-6 yr bull? As I always say, best to support your local mart especially when selling odd type animals and let the big feeders have the hassle of getting a better price for odd animals

old bull in ross yesterday made 1500 he weighed 820 kilo bought by factory.

talked to the lad who delivered him for me so he was there when he got cross.

we took cattle crate off the crush and loaded him through the chute as we were so cautious of him. he had chased my brother several times over a short distances just trying to get him out of the field. and we are careful
he is a cross bull and is part of why i wanted rid of him and part of why i would not of liked to put him in the ring. he could of caused trouble in the mart or caused an accident at a l8r date with his new owner.
my lad told the handlers not to go into the pens with him and they did anyway... didn't take them long to get back out:eek:. young 20yr old town types who don't know how to handle cattle!
sure he should of returned another 300e but the piece of mind of knowing he won't cause an injury is priceless!

I got €3.50/kg for a 2 year old Saler teaser bull I sent to Nenagh AIBP.
We was over 2 years but under 30 months and graded U- 2=. He killed out at 400 Kg.
Might be of interest to those who are thinking of keeping a teaser bull on a suckler farm.

Anyone kill a stock bull lately? Our lads time is near up. Getting a dirty look off him every time I go near him and his feet are at him. He's a limo round 5 years old. I've a load of bullocks to go before Christmas and am tempted to send him with them but I'd say they'll try and screw me for him!

I sold a fella there last week, an angus that went mean.
I got €2.80 DW off the factory and he made €1,410- 920kgs live by my reckoning.

Phew! That's great money, especially for this time of year. I hope it keeps up.

lads for the sake of your bulging bank balances will you offer some of these stock for sale live? The live trade is a fair bit stronger than fat price for the mentioned animals

would have been lookin for 2500 for him for breeding but then we would have had to stand over him if for some reason he did'nt perform. Very pleased with how we got on.

You don't have to go back to the start to get the jist of it. Think it says it all in the title really if you read it.

Still a valid point . Sold 2 xbred dairy teasers days under 2 yrs . Avg 1500 .
A nice amount for poor beef animals who did alot of good work over summer.
