DIY Club Lengthening

Has anyone lengthening their clubs themsleves? I have an old set i'd like to fix up. I know i could get this down in a pro shop but i'd like to do it myself. You can get shaft extenders from www.nordicagolf.com or www.golfsmith.com so it is quite cheap. Question, is has any one tried and any pitfulls to watch out for?
