    Hey guys,

Got my grant renewal letter yesterday and the amount i receive was dropped from the Non-Adjacent rate of €3120, which i received last year, to the Adjacent rate of €1250!

The most annoying part about the whole thing is that it's due to distance. When I check the distance from my house to the college, google maps comes up with 57km on a motorway, and then 46km using a normal road. Then by going into the other options and fiddling around you can get it down to 44.76km.

I'm actually fuming with the outcome. The route for 44.76km states that it's the shortest road route. However, it's longer in terms of time and makes absolutely zero sense to take.

Due to the bad bus service between where I live and my university I also had to move up as commuting really didn't work out in first semester last year.

It's beyond me how the government can raise the distance level from 24km to 45km in one year. Furthermore, to not take logic and travel time over what is supposedly the "shortest route", is ridiculous. The fact that less than 240 meters can cost someone in need of the money, almost €2000, is just well and truly beyond me.

Even if I was to commute, it works out about €70 per week, which over 32 weeks comes to about €2240. I have friends living down the road from college who will receive the €1250, it's ridiculous.

    Phew...rant over!

    You could try appealing it.

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.
