Does anyone know if you can buy a discounted weekly or monthly ticket for irish rail?
I'm thinking of commuting from westport but its a crazy price for normal ticket!

Where are you commuting to? Dublin? My advice would be not to do it, you'll end up a zombie.

The only way to do it "cheaply" is to buy an annual ticket through taxsaver, your employer will have to purchase it for you and then, generally, you pay it out of your weekly/fortnightly pay spread out across the year.

    See www.taxsaver.ie for details.

Westport to Dublin? the day return ticket price is €34.50 monday to thursday, and €48 on friday so that would be almost €190/week. You may be able to get a monthly ticket but you would have to contact Irish Rail for prices as they are not available on the Irish Rail website. you may get a return price online of around €35 or less if you book earlier. The first train is at 5.15am getting into Heuston at 8.38am and last train back leaves Heuston at 6.30pm getting into Westport at 9.45pm.

it will work out at over 8 hours a day travelling on busses luas and trains on top of your work.

Monthly tickets are also available. Typically 1/10th of the price of an annual ticket.

I don't think I would be one of the "IE bashers" on this board but even I think 30 hours a week in IE's company on a DMU might be a bit steep
