playing delgany this weekend for the first time.
anyone a member here or know if they stock a strokesaver? tried to ring the proshop a few times but goes to voicemail.... from what ive heard the tee shots need to be placed so would be good to not be hitting blind. any tips appreciated! :)

Best I can do for you...

    Delgany Photos

I'm a member at Greystones up the road and I'd be very surprised if they don't have a strokesaver.

Ye I'm a member up there. You are completely right tee shots are vital. length isn't an issue for most holes just find the fairway. Great place to play golf and so long as the greens are back to normal you will have a great day.

God love you as it's a poor track. Lot of courses in that area seem the same ie Bray, Greystones......lots of hills, sidehill lies, lucky/unlucky bounces and very little reward for good shots. I would avoid it unless you have to.

    yikes!...controversial :)
im booked so no tuning back now....

best of luck in Delgany. No slicing accepted. I think maybe there's 1 hole where you can fade. Bring pacemaker batteries for Cardiac hill.
Have played a few times, but still have trouble remembering where is the next tee. Ok i can get confused easily but a few 'next tee' signs are badly needed.
Theres an akward couple of holes about middle of the back, a par3 and then go back to tee off for the next: everybody has a different opinion about order of play so ask first.

After reading the comments again may have been a bit harsh and not aiming to affend anybody but have commonly heard comments like "never playing that place again" about it.

Hope you enjoy and at least the views will be nice! Members are probably a nice bunch as well so you should get a nice welcome.

    Love the back-tracking!

Delgany is a tough enough track with lots of climbing, and many people tend not to enjoy the place as a result. That said, you get some great drives and I'd disagree with Keano about the unlucky bounces - I've played there many times and never been that badly penalised... certainly not on a good shot.

As for the 16th/17th - you drive off 17 before playing the par three 16th - the idea being that the 17th fairway is clear while the group ahead of you is on the 16th green. I agree with whizbang about some marker posts - they'd certainly help.

Now then Keano, regarding your comments about Greystones, I think you and I should step outside!

Hmm, wouldn't have said it was like Bray, apart from the hillside element. The mature trees of Delgany give it more character and channel your drives far more obviously (vs the banking and rough at Bray). Delgany also tends to go up and down the hillside (not as bad as it sounds), whereas Bray goes from side to side working it's way to the top.

as long as the greens arent the unfathomable mystery that brays were...
