Quick answer needed .... Sorry if this is in the wrong forum.

Is it illegal to remove a clamp yourself? Not a dublin city council one but a private management company appointed one..

    Hypothetically speaking.

Only if you get caught and leave the evidence behind ;)

    Afaik it its perfectly legal.

A mate of mine actually displays a sign in his van window, warning potential clampers that any clamp placed on his van would be removed, and he wouldn't guarantee they would not be damaged on doing so.

Hey, if you do so, and find yourself in court. Dont mention my name though.

Not if you don't damage it (or get caught damaging it)

If you damage it, you run the risk of being done for criminal damage.

Another boardsie asked the same thing here.

Two cases in Wexford AfAIK not prosected for removing them. Sign on the window looks a good idea.

Invest in a lock picking gun, or a portable angle grinder. Private clampers have no legal right to clamp your car.

For mods or anyone else about the legality of this discussion
    Vehicle clamping

Vehicle clamping is in place in the cities of Dublin, Cork and Galway. Services are operated in these cities by private companies on behalf of the local authority. Employees of the vehicle clamping company are entitled to clamp (and de-clamp vehicles) and issue clamping notices for vehicles that are in violation of the parking regulations. Clamping services are also common in car parks of hotels, hospitals, universities and shopping centres to discourage long-term parking at the expense of staff, customers or clients. Clamping on private property is not covered by legislation and the legality of clamping on private property is unclear.

Ask in Legal Issues or perhaps Motors forum is better.
Although teol seems to have given the best answer you'll get, it's a grey area.
