My uncle upgraded his hardrive from a measly 10 gigs to 80 gigs in a really old computer.

    Windows Xp
    128mb

He asked me to see what was wrong with it. The speakers are fine, and I can't seem to notice anything wrong going inside the computer. I opened it and I see no broken terminals nor split cables.

Also, since the computer is really old, he didn't know where the windows cd is so he installed a cracked version.

Do you really think this has something to do with the fake windows version messing something in the OS?

Moved from Security to Computers & Technology. You should get better help here.

If the original Microsoft Key is still readable just borrow a CD for the particular version and install the OS using the key on the computer.

I presume you've checked the balance in Volume control?

    First thing I did.
Also checked speaker set up on Control Panel and made sure that drivers were updated.

Sound like either a) an issue with the wire to the right speaker or b) somehow the sound has been panned to the left..

How does a sound amp look like inside a cpu. Where should I look in the motherboard.

When you say the speakers are fine have you tried them on another device? There won't be an amp inside the case, you'll either have a dedicated soundcard or it'll be integrated into the motherboard. Either way there won't be any 'wires'.

Yeah I tried them on my Ipod Touch and both speakers were working. Like I said before, the problem started when he installed a new harddrive and had to install a pirated copy of XP Professional.

Is the sound gone on the right in general or just in particular programs? I've had sound issues before where it selected the wrong driver to control the sound.

Click Start >> Run and type devmgmt.msc
What's listed under the Sound controllers? Any yellow exclamation marks?

Did that like you said. Everything checks normal.
