Tax credits

    Hi,
I have been living with my fiancee now for 4 years. Just over 2 years ago she was layed off and just now is coming to the end of her savings. She has not been on the dole at all during this time we just worked it out between us. Just recently a friend told me that I may be able to claim her tax credits (as we could if we were married) is this true? I have been looking it up a bit and it seems that a civil partnership will give a same sex couple the right to claim eachothers tax credits but does it do the same for a straight couple?
    Thanks for the help

    Aw don't get me started...
Unfortunately that's the case, by not allowing civil partnership for straight couples they have actually enacted a piece of equality legislation that actually creates an inequality.

Exactly, Because we are not married we cant claim tax credits as a couple but if we were on the dole we would get treated as a couple or if she was a he it might help :( .
