Used to love this when we were kids, classic stuff. I guess it's so cheap to make new kids TV nowadays that they don't bother re-running old black and white stuff or dubbing weird foreign (non-animated) programmes.

Monkey's most recent appearance was in 2004 when it got a re-run on Channel 4 in a late night slot with the remaining episodes dubbed. IIRC it got a DVD release around the same time.

There is supposedly a film adapation of Journey to the West (upon which Monkey is based) coming along in the next few years.

I used to love Monkey, it was on on Friday nights. It used to annoy me when people kept calling it Monkey Magic.

I hated it. Humans pretending to be pigs, clouds, dubbing and most of all
    sexual confusion as a kid.

I remember as a child thinking the Priest looked like a girl and thought what I perceived as a girl was a pretty girl. yet the role was a Male Role and the Priest was supposed to be male!!! which led to confusion.

The actress Masako Natsume was actually female but played a Male in that show. Which led to more confusion as a kid where I'd heard that certain Asian performers/actors that were male sometimes played a female role when it came to stage acting.

"In Peking Opera all the actors, even those playing female roles, are male"

Grrrrr Damn you Monkey TV show and confusing a young pre-puberty
    red blooded Irish Male!!
