Mk 4 Mondeo 2.0 petrol,opinions?

Titanium X is a decent spec on the Mondeo. Mondeo is a reliable car, 2.0 litre petrol engine is straight forward with nothing complex to go wrong. Price is ok but make sure it is on the old tax system as it will be difficult enough to sell on in this country down the road.

x is the highest spec id say?

    very nice motor that.

Yeah in Ireland, the Titanium Sport is a bit higher spec than the X but never sold in this country. The MkIV Titanium Sport really took over from the MkIII ST TDCi in the UK.

My fathers got an identical car. Its a seriously comfy motor, well specced, reasonably frugal and handles a lot better than it should for its size. The only hassle he's had was it needed a new clutch but it was covered by ford outside of warranty. Basically it was getting stuck in neutral when cold so should be obvious on a test drive.

As for the price, a year and half ago my father paid €16500 for his. That car has been there since then (there was a black one too) and was priced at €22500 at the time he bought his. It also had higher mileage. I'd be trying to get a chunk off the asking price.

I've kinda guessed it had been there a while, black one is still there too,
would offering around the 10k mark be too cheeky:D

What sort of mpg is your dad's car achieving?

One thing I don't like is the "powerstart" button, whats wrong with the old fashioned key?

Thanks for all the input so far keep it coming please,

Oh the reason I'm looking at a petrol over diesel is that I only do around 10k a year.

    Diesel won't suit everyone.

Well he's getting low-mid 30's. That's all suburban use and long trips at the weekend. I have gotten 37 on a long trip measured properly. My own 2 litre diesel does about 48 on the same trip so it's not to shabby compared to that with an extra gear.

Some people don't need a diesel, plus the cost saving on these can make them cheaper in the long run. They'll be more reliable too.

My dad had a 2006 Focus 1.6 Ti-VCT before this, does about 10k km a year tops and rekons it's €5 a week extra on juice. He does wince when he fills the tank though - it's easily €100 a pop now. He had actually gone into the garage buying either a new or year old vRS at the time but the Mondeo caught his eye. When he heard the price he collected it 2 days later because another boardsie was after it:D

The stop/start button is very handy. Saves a lot of messing about. The only thing that I can say against it is that there's no auto lights and wipers. He missed these from the Focus. Otherwise it's par for the course with Ford which is simple to use controls, decent gearbox and nice steering.

I had a drive in this one today, really liked it,
seats are a bit hard though.
Quite powerful, and very nice to drive despite it's size.

Am I mad to be considering a diesel, considering I only do around 16,000km a year?

    All comments and suggestions welcome,
    JYD.

Lovely motor with a great spec. In reality you'll get a petrol for a good 8k cheaper at least although a year older. I'd go with the petrol if you're doing small mileage. A friend of mine has one with that engine in the UK and it's over 130k miles now. Still going strong. But that's as a reps car doing long journeys.
