    s/h Trek 7.5 @ €500 or new 7.3 @ €650. the s/h is 3 months old and is virtually pristine condition.

If new, then I can avail of Bike to work scheme.

is the 7.5 worth the extra money?

need to decide by friday and am new to cycling.

Just want to get fit(ter) and ride with friends & kids.

Max spin would be 50km any one trip

    help appreciated!

Not sure I entirely follow the question of whether the 7.5 is worth the extra money since it appears to cost less than the 7.3 in your original post. Regardless there's not a huge amount to choose between these bikes. The frames are identical, so the only meaningful difference is an 8 speed (7.3) cassette versus a 9 speed (7.5) and better wheels on the 7.5.

That said, as a general rule I'd always buy the best bike I could afford, so go with the 7.5, especially as it appears to be cheaper (if there isn't a typo in your original post).

If you end up really liking it, you never know you might want to get a road bike later, so I might save the bike-to-work scheme for that (more expensive) bike.

I think you should go for the 7.5 and keep the option of buy to work scheme bike for another day ;)

Are you sure you want a hybrid though? A racer style bike with dropped bars is substantially faster.

why does it have to be a trek?

I have a 7.5 I bought on B2W in 2010. I ALSO want a road bike now. The 7.5 is fantastic and I get great KM's out of it at a reasonable pace in reasonable comfort. Added to this it has triple walled tyres and carbon forks meaning, within reason its a go-anywhere -at -reasonable pace bike and IMHO the 7.3 is a step down and far far inferior.

That said, it ain't no road bike either tho and in the latest sprint triathlon I did I got wiped by less fit people on road bikes :(

So of the two; go for the 7.5 and save the B2W in case you choose to move onward and upward..

    well,

the 7.5 is secondhand. The 7.3 is new. If I buy new, I can use bike to work scheme and it comes in at around €325 net of taxes. The 7.5 is €500 secondhand.

As I am new to cycling and do not know much about bikes, I went for the 7.3 as it is that little bit cheaper; there is a clean history in that I am sure it was never damaged (or worse a stolen bike!) and I will have some back up and sympathy from the dealer.

Thanks for all your help though.

Buying treks is helping destroy pro cycling. Forget doping. "How?" I hear you ask. Andy schleck rides one and is sponsored by them. Anything that promotes his style of riding is bad for the sport! As Roy keane once said of Rio Ferdinand "just because you play well for 20 minutes against tottenham doesn't make you a superstar." I apply the same logic to rubber neck junior.

I am in the process of buying a Trek. Can anyone explain this post or me or is it just the gargle talking?

Treks are intimately linked with Lance Armstrong so all logic goes out the window when they are being discussed.......................
