It is coming to the year where my son is looking into CAO options.

At the moment the options he is looking at are Chemical Engineering in UCC or Biomedical Science at CIT/UCC.

Just wondering what are the employment options for Chemical Engineers at the moment.

Pretty good, i just finished CITs chemical engineering program this June. So far I think about 3/4 of the class have jobs. The starting salaries seem to range from about 28-40k.

Its a pretty good course, the UCC course is very similar and as far as I know their outgoing class has similar employment.

My brother did this, found it very tough (especially final year) but got a good job after graduating. Employment prospects are good as far as I know.

the employment prospects arent 'ok' they are unreal , pick up any of the business sections aa the papers and you'll be reading about chemical plants in ireland ....

half of all our export last year was from chemical engineering...(50bn)

9 outta 10 of the top pharmaceutical companies based in ireland ...
and we're the highest paid in any profession upon graduating apart from medicine and dentistry obviously :)
