What Hard Drive and RAM?

I am upgrading my desktop for the first time in years and I am wondering what's the best Hard Drive and RAM to get.

The setup I am aiming for will be based around an Intel i7-2600K processor and Intel DZ68DB board (I can get both cheap through some connections and I am more interested in stability than overclocking).

Anyway, what would be the best RAM and hard drive for these? I was looking at 8gb 1333Mhz RAM and a 2Tb HDD, but can't decide which make is best.

The machine will be used for storing and converting videos mostly, so a 7200rpm HDD is needed (what do people think of the Hitachi 2Tb or 3Tb 7k3000?).

    Any advice? Thanks

Any cheap 8GB DDR3 kit will do you fine. If you are doing a lot of video editing then getting 16GB might be worth it as RAM is so cheap right now.

Might be worth thinking about getting an SSD and then a 2TB storage drive. 2TB 7200rpm drives can be quite expensive.

Thanks. I'll get the xtra RAM if I can fit it into the budget.

I've been looking around and the HDD's are quite expensive. I asked about the Hitachi 7k3000 becuse I came across this: Hitachi 2TB 3.5" SATA-600 7200rpm 64MB. 2Tb 7200rpm sounds too good to be true for €95. Anyone used one?

The deal I am getting for the board and cpu comes with an Intel 20Gb SSD. Not sure what use that would be!

Whats your budget? Would something like this work?

    Total build cost: €208.05 + €30 shipping
    Crucial M4 64GB SSD 6,4cm (2,5") €87.14
    2 x 8GB-Kit G.Skill PC3-10667U CL9 €30.59
    Samsung EcoGreen F4 2000GB, SATA II (HD204UI) 8,9cm (3,5") €59.73

    Thanks for looking that up.

The Board/CPU/20Gb SSD bundle and Windows 7 all come to about €395. My budget is around €650, so what you have there looks just right.

I have a 1tb 7200 drive in my current setup. I could keep that for the editing and get a large "green" 5400 drive for the storage. Would save a few quid that way.
