Just insured my iPhone and iPad for the year for €79 with this crowd! www.gadgetinsurance.ie
€77 cheaper than o2 insurance and the iPad's covered as well!

*I have no connection with this company- just recommending a bargain

Had a look at that but found it a bit confusing. Does the 79 euro insurance not just cover gadgets up to a value of 500 euro?
ie would myself and my wife be able to insure both our iphone 4s for the total cost of 79 euro?

"GadgetInsurance.ie will provide cover for up to 5 selected gadgets on a choice of two cover levels, Premier (up to €500 total policy limit) or Premier Plus (up to €1,000 total policy limit). The policy covers the cost in replacing or repairing products as a result of Theft or Accidental Damage. Please refer to the Gadget Insurance policy details for the full terms and conditions"

Just be aware that water damage and loss:)are EXCLUDED and that there is a 25€ excess on claims

Which wouldn't even cover the cost of replacing an iPhone Sim Free.

I remember there was a thread on this a while ago, if you look at the Key Facts document:

    You Policy Does Not Cover

Theft, Theft damage or Malicious damage of an unattended covered product:
    (a) From or in a motor vehicle unless locked in a glove box or out of sight in a boot/luggage area;
    (b) From or in any other property, place or premises unless the Theft, Theft damage or Malicious damage is accompanied by forcible entry or exit, or where the Theft, Theft damage or Malicious damage results from the acts of a person who has entered the property, place or premises unlawfully; or
    (c) From any public place or place to which the public has access at the time of the incident.
    Water ingress of any kind.
Misplacing or losing a covered product(s) for any reason,
    other than Theft.

From my reading of that, the only thing your covered by is if you drop the phone yourself. And I'd imagine you'd have to send it back to be looked at before a claim, so you won't get anything if its stolen and you claim you dropped it.

Frankly, its €79 wasted as that policy pretty much covers nothing that the average user would want. I'd gladly pay €79 for an all risks policy but to my knowledge there are none on the market.

The clauses refer to an unattanded product. On your person, its covered.

I can't imagine you would get comp all risks for €79. I worked in insurance claims previously.

Im not defending the company, it suits my risks. I was making other users aware of the product, I won't bother in future.

Nothing wrong with the price, the level of coverage is pretty crap and you'd be better of keeping the €79 as a sinking fund or get a better policy elsewhere.

If you have contents insurance you can specify your products for cover.

I have cover on a laptop, ipad and 2 samsung smartphones for less that €40 for the year and it covers theft or accidental damage outside the home also.

I had specified 2 phones a laptop and an ipad. They took my money when i specified them (on the phone) and when I went to claim for a dropped iphone they said they dont actually cover an iPhone. So I asked them about the ipad and the laptop and they said only the laptop was covered.
I asked them to read out what was specified by me and they read out all those items, even the ones i wasnt covered for.

Get them to send it to you in writing.

I arranged it with them over the phone. Original policy was already in place and i called the to name items.
There was nothing one way or the other in any documentation i ever got from them.

Complain to them that they took your money, and led you to believe that you were covered. Threaten them with ombudsman

I did. I threatened all sorts. I sent letters. Nothing.
Its like dealing with Ryanair when they cancel your flight.
