Well in procurement from a multinational point of view any degree will work ,I have seen Bus studies to Bio-engineering and everything in between,I myself am in this industry with a BSc Computer Science and MBA.
Without experience though entry level jobs will be circa 22-25K.

Experience with ERP and MRP systems such as Oracle and SAP a big advantage as they are the big two in Ireland ,although JD Edwards and Baan will have a base here as well.

APICS qualifications are always welcome in Supply chain and with the evolution of buyer roles being combined with planner roles of late will be a big help.

This information is not as relevant for retail wholesale but more for Procurement behind a manufacturing or distribution enterprise.
