Have a Joomla site with Google Analytics installed and was working fine. Site gets an average 300 visits per day. All of a sudden it's dropped to zero.

Checked on the code and it's present and the dashboard says it's tracking.

Any ideas what the problem maybe?

You should register with Google Webmaster Tools as well - that'll tell you if there was any problem with your website!

where do you put the tracking code.

Best place is to place it in an active template on the header, but it make sure if using multiple templates on the site that the google code is in them all

    hope this helps
