Maybe he misread their proposition and thought it said "Ireland"?

Oh to be a fly on the wall at the first training sessions.

Roy : "I'm not coaching any team out here, it's too feckin' cold like! And what's that thing on the horizon? A volcano? Like a b****** volcano that stops everyone flying? These balls are s***! Total s***!"

    Assistant : "That's a .....boulder......"

Roy : "Listen, I said to Mick and I'm saying it to you *rabble rabble rabble rabble*"

If he waits another couple of month's the Ireland position will probably be open. Though I doubt he'd want anything to do with the FAI!

Why wouldn't Iceland go for the likes of Brian Kerr instead?

It'd be a step backwards for him - Faroe Islands are 111th in the world, Iceland are 124th.

Seriously though, if Kerr wanted it, he'd probably be able to do more with them, bigger population, bigger league, probably better resources. However, I reckon Kerr is enjoying his job with the Faroes too much right now, he's also got those WC qualifiers against us to look forward to.

As for Roy Keane managing us, he needs to prove his time at Sunderland wasn't a fluke first. IIRC, he had plenty of financial backing at Ipswich too and that didn't go as well. If he can get the, relative, success he had at Sunderland with another club, then he should be considered but as a football manager, you're only as good as your last job and that's not to Keane's credit at the mo.
