    Folks,

I need to get an engine rebuild done on a KIA Sorento 2.5 CRDi engine, if anyone can advise of a reliable outfit to do this work please drop me a PM, I have been scratching around for a second hand engine and they are like hens teeth unless I go to the UK.... so I am investingating the rebuild root but not sure who to turn too....

    Best regards, Peter.

    What failed on it?

It's blown a piston as far as I can tell, so it will likely need a rebore, I have spent over 3000 euro on this thing the last 6 months, all four injectors failed and then the turbo blew as well....

In the latest incident it blew one of the injectors out of the engine, once that was plugged back in it blew out the oil stick....

If it needs a rebore with matching new pistons along with all other required parts and the machine work and labour etc, I can't see it being finacially viable TBH

Id advise having it properly diagnosed first to see exactly where you stand, It may be the rings stuck in the ringlands.

Thanks for the advice, I appreciate it !

To tap your knowledge a little more if I may... what exactly does the mechanic need to do to determine that, is it a matter of dropping off the sump and pulling out the piston ? I doubt a scope would be able to determine the extent of the problem or would it ?

I know the mechanic will know this but I want to be armed with enough knowledge to make an informed decision...

    Best regards, Peter.

Do Kias not come with a 7 year warranty? How come you've had to shell out?

Ok.. so a scope would help....

Ultimately this could have been caused by one of the injectors failing over a long period of time...

First I'd do a leakdown test of the cylinders to confirm the pressure loss situation, adding oil to the cylinder and testing again will confirm if rings are the issue. A bore scope will give you an idea before stripping if there is any major bore or piston damage.

After that you could remove the pistons through the sump to inspect them before commiting to a full build but really, on an engine thats had fuelling, turbo and now pressure loss issues, its at a point of do it properly or give up IMO as without a full strip down, you can't fully check all clearances, bore ovality etc etc so just fitting new ring may be like putting a plaster on a leaking dam.

hpmp.ie are very good by all accounts. I had cause to have a chat with one of the guys and he certainly knows his engines.

Not at all, you explained a lot more in your post, and your general opinion confirms my thinking....

    Thanks again !

Yes, they are very good. Had them do machining work on engines a number of times.

Thanks, no luck with Duffy's tho....

I sourced two second hand engines but sadly they are the earlier version of the D4CB engine (aluminium rocker cover) mine is apparently the D4CB VGT (black rocker cover) which is the 07 onwards engine. Would there be any chance that the block on these two engines would be the same ? Who might know....

Sorry if this is a dumb question... ;)
