So the QS rankings came out today and we're way down at 64th or something. Could I ask all of you to please work a little harder and help bring this thing up a bit.

I'm sure the College will be a bit disappointed with the overall ranking falling, but some individual subjects/departments have done outstandingly, far outstripping the overall rank.

In the sciences, we're ranked 15th globally for mathematics, and 36th for 'natural sciences'.

In the arts, even more interestingly, English literature is 32nd globally, and history 39th. I say 'more interestingly' because it is these subjects that are often neglected when students are pushed towards STEM subjects, & tend to bear the first brunt of funding cutbacks; in addition, it can be difficult to attract external funding, versus a project in the sciences (which can be industry-funded etc). So perhaps College (and indeed the state) should be careful about being too hasty in pushing students into science/engineering-type courses.

Where are you getting all these figures from?

Scroll down a little bit & you'll find 'QS World University Rankings by Subject, 2011/12', and each individual subject is listed under relevant headings.
