Mental Health jobs?

    Hi,

I left Dublin 3 years ago to study Mental Health Nursing over in England with the aim of coming back and working once I got my degree.

It's coming to the point now where I'm looking around for that first job post-qualifying but really don't know where to start looking for Mental Health jobs in Ireland!

With the economy the way it is at the moment I can imagine it's pretty tough but would hope there would always be a need for nurses! Ideally would prefer to work in working age services with people with mental health problems but if need be could work in elderly care/nursing homes to get my foot on the ladder.

Where are all the nursing jobs in Ireland advertised though? Whenever I look on the internet am just linked back to adverts recruiting for the UK or Australia!

Google the phrase "hse recruitment embargo" .. ... sorry to be the bearer of good news. :(

Hmm, I might move this thread over to health-sciences or somewhere health-specific.

As JustMary has said - the HSE is already well over budget for the year so far and recruitment of nurses will be minimal ( if at all ) , I suppose there would be a chance of a temp position somewhere but for now a permanent job is sadly probably just a pipe dream.

Is it the same in Nursing Homes?

Looks like I might be on an enforced stay abroad for a while longer as although the job market in England isn't great there are still nursing jobs for good applicants.

Had a look in Belfast though and it appears just as bad as Dublin.

    Hi Daniel,
yeah jobs are very thin on the ground compared to how it used to be especially outside Dublin.Loads of private work available in dublin though.have a look at irishjobs.ie or cplhealthcare.ie or kate cowhig recruitment.its mostly dementia care work thats available here.nurse on call have plenty of agency work available in Dublin although much of it would be specialling. The public service here arent a patch on the NHS.The HSE is light years behind.you are definitely open to more opportunities and career advancement within the NHS especially if you were to work in London.Tonnes of work in OZ as well in both private and public service.
