Revenge for yesterday's minor defeat will be sweet :D

Again, a tough one to call considering we've only seen Galway in action once with a pretty convincing win over Limerick (like their minors, they're big and extrememly economical with the possession they have) whereas we impressed against Wexford in the Leinster final but were engaged in a turkey shoot against Antrim.

€20 in, pay at the gate although bizarrely there are tickets available on Tickets.ie

Tough to call this one again like the minors. Should be a good day.

It's a bit crazy that Galway can be in the final after just one game. They need to let our underage teams into Leinster to make it fair on everyone - Galway and the opposition. You should have to win at leat 2 or 3 tough games to be in an AI Final.

As for this game it's hard to know what to expect. Galway gave Dublin a bit of a hammering the last time the teams met in an U-21 final but I'd say this one will be a bit closer. Galway 8/11 favs with Paddy Power. Dublin 5/4

They also have the unfair advantage of playing their semi final in Semple Stadium but that's hardly their fault as the GAA turned down a joint appeal from the Dublin/Antrim county boards for the game to be played elsewhere.

To be honest playing in Semple Stadium is never really any great advantage to Galway teams. We've a very patchy record there. Galway would prefer this final was in Croke Park, which imo it should be.

They had started playing the U-21 final as a double header with the camogie final but seem to have abandoned that idea. As a major national final it should be in Croke Park, and with Dublin playing they'd have got a decent crowd too (Galway are in the camogie final aswell so would have brought a decent crowd too).

Agreed, that said it's nice to get a roadtrip out of it. We don't get near enough of them :)

Ah 2 great days in 2001 in Thurles ... wasn't there a fleadh or hooley on there in 2001 ?

If you were from Galway you would laugh at this. Galway hate going to Thurles.

I'd heard of a few that took the coast road to Wexford and cross-country !

U21's hammered there by Tipp last year.
Seniors beaten there twice by Waterford.
    I'm not laughing.

Hopefully this will be a good game, its hard to know who is favourites for this game. Maybe Dublin because of their provincial campaign and the fact that usually Galway teams aren't great in Thurles.

The one good thing for Galway is that this team seem to be physically bigger and stronger than normal underage teams from the county. Also they seem to be better in the air - it will be interesting to see the duel between Burke at centre-forward and Rushe at centre-back. Whoever comes out on top here will probably define the winners imo.

As long as this final doesn't turn into the farce of last year, I think that Galway have a decent chance of winning.

Another bizarre goal for the Dubs!

Galway slightly edging it so far but Dublin will finish strong i feel.

Looking dodgy now for Dublin. Only one winner from here on in it would seem.

Pretty sure he wasn't playing tbh.

    He's only 17 after all.

More surprising that Richie Cummins isn't starting considering his involvement with the seniors.

Game should be over by now.

4 free's missed, one was as easy as it gets.
Soft goal given away and gave them a few stupid frees when it would have been better to just pressure the man.

Well done to Galway. Very impressive all over the pitch really. Plnety of size and skill to go with it. Just a bit too much hurling ability for the dubs to handle tonight. Probably as quiet a game as Liam Rushe has had all year.

Very similar story to how the minor went, well done to Galway, very disappointing.

Bryan Tyers is easy to listen to and his Gaeilge is faultless.
Fleury is hard to listen to and it's also funny to hear him commenting on the Dublin corner back who drew a slap on the Galway lad,James Regan as he went through for Galway's third goal. In his own day Fleury would have tackled him cleanly and cleared the ball skilfully.......

welcome to boards mighty first post

Anyway well done to Galway our underage teams are miles ahead of Dublin but we need these guys to start hurling through at senior level

To be fair their is a bigger picture here. Dublin are able to get lads from minor and u21 to senior level. Galway dont seem to be able to do that. Galway seem to favour small nippy lads in forward line which aint helping the seniors.
Dublin have plenty of them lads on the seniors already.

Would argue on the size factor. No Galway player except for Daly was able to catch the ball clean. It's a huge problem that is going to stick with these guys at senior level which means the future replacements will have the same problem.

Aside from that minor detail it was a great win. The better side won and I think it was a fair enough scoreline. Credit to Jamie Ryan on a great save too.

To be fair, I thought that davy Glennon for a small man was better in the air than most of our players tonight. Also James Regan's goal was al down to him catching the ball while being heavily marked and making straight for goal.

While Niall Burke wasn't scoring as freely as in the semi-final, he more than made up for that by keeping Rushe quiet - I don't think he has had a quieter game all year tbh.

Except for that bizarre goal that Dublin got in the first half, they never looked like threatening the galway goal except for that one chance mid-way through the second half. To be frank, Galway should have won by a lot more.

The one thing from this final (and last weeks minor success) is that while the underage appears strong in Galway, there is still a huge problem at senior. Maybe its time to do what Tipp done last year and throw in a few of these U-21's into senior next year and get rid of some of the "deadwood" that have continuously failed over the last number of years. At least they couldn't be any worse.

Well done to the U-21's on banishing the memory of that mauling 12 months ago.

What about Regan's goal, or that free Glennon won after catching the ball. Two off the top of my head. Fairly sure Burke caught the ball for Glennon's goal as well.

I think a lot of those Galway players could step up to the senior team already. The Galway senior team are generally very overrated, and have a lot of very average players.

Both wing-backs, Grealish and Foy, look to be brilliant. Very dominant against Limerick and looked good again tonight.

And Connolly, the full-back, looks superb. There's maybe a lack of top class full-backs coming through in every county but if he can bring those performances to senior level, then he could be one of the best in the country in a few years. Swept up time after time yesterday.

Daly, Glennon, both Burkes, Coen all look very good too. I know they've had a lot of good underage times but I think some of these players will be very good at senior.

I'm quite surprised at how they outclassed Dublin really. They were by far the better team.

In fairness this year's Galway U-21's and minors were not your typical underage teams we usually see from Galway where it is a load of skillful nippy small lads. Both sides were big and physical especially down the spine of the team and noticably were very good in the air too which is unlike previous Galway sides. Maybe a change in focus of what they want coming through? There were a couple of speedsters in both sides alright but in general they relied on teamwork and a ferocious workrate rather than depending on a couple of superstar forwards to win games for them.

What game were you watching?.this galway team won everything in the air, finally a galway team who can catch high ball.Glennon and Regan cleaned out their men in the air througout the game. Donoghue ,Coen Burke and Foy all dominated in the air and caught alot of dirty ball.Dublins tactic of bullying this Galway team only lasted for about 5 mins til they realised the were in the s**t.Fortunately foR Galway the dubs had no plan B,in fact the didnt really have a plan A.Being outscored 2:10 to 3 points from play tells it's own story.

Bit of a myth that, I think, that most successful Galway underage teams were small and nippy. I'd say they all had a fair share of big strong boyos too.
