Dealer pretending to be a private seller

I went to look at a car on Friday. The car seemed fine, price was ok but the seller was a bit strange.
I did a bit of googling when I got home & I found out that the seller works for a second hand car dealer. I rang the dealer on Sat and they are also selling the car (for 900 more though).
Is this sort of practice normal?
This sort of messing makes me feel v suspicious.

Am guessing its advertised on donedeal. The person advertising it may have taken it as a trade in and want to get it sold quickly so as to get his/her commission. The person advertising it may own the car and also have it advertised on the garage stocklist. Nobody is forceing you to buy it from the dealer at the 900extra. The dealer may have it marked up for more so as to allow for dealing with people with worthless tradeins or to have room for this haggleing sh*t that some people expect. If the price is right buy from the cheapest seller and treat it as a private sale anything more is a bonus.

    Thanks for the replies guys.
I'm just slightly paranoid as I am not that experienced when it comes to the buying and selling of cars and I thought this seemed a bit strange.
This article about 'curbstoners' probably has a lot to do with my paranoia :P

I'd always advise the unwary to buy from a genuine private seller.

what does the cert have down as the registered owner?

If its not the person you dealt with then its a good chance he is working for a dealer...if you are buying private then you should always meet the seller at their property and the name & address on the cert should match to the address you are visiting
