Deferring a year

I was just wondering how easy/hard it is to defer an academic year. I'm heading into final year now and may need to take a year or two out. I know people often do this to go travelling ect. so I'd be fairly certain it's do-able. Anyone been through this or knows if it's a simple case of saying to the college "right I'm off…

I was just wondering how easy/hard it is to defer an academic year. I'm heading into final year now and may need to take a year or two out. I know people often do this to go travelling ect. so I'd be fairly certain it's do-able.

Anyone been through this or knows if it's a simple case of saying to the college "right I'm off for a year or two, pencil me in for 2012", and if it can only be for a maximum of one year and they need a certain amount of notice?

Searched for older threads but couldn't find any answers.
