    Hi

When my car was previously NCT'd the tester wrote down the mileage wrong, it should have been 80,000 and he wrote 180,000 on the print out

How do I get this fixed as the NCT is due again!!!

why did you wait till now to get it fixed, how many nct's has your car done? what is its year, its mileage was 80000 when? 2 years ago?
whats is the current actual mileage? car petrol or diesel/type
why no luck with ncts, what was their reply

134,000 now, reason I waited so long is sheer laziness!!!! :D The nct was not due so why rush?

    Its petrol

Reply I got was, it was NCT'd under the previous ownership and since that has changed there is nothing they can do about it

Basiclly, I just need to know the legal route of getting this changed....

    If anyone knows

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,323 ✭✭✭Merch

dont know what the legal route is, but how could they not change it as under a different owner, if you were the owner??
if you weren't then how do you know its wrong? and not something else?
what year is the car and engine size? how many NCT's has it done

if the nct is due again why would does it matter you will be having a new nct with the correct mileage

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,795 ✭✭✭✭mickdw

So you are saying you didnt own the car when when the previous test was carried out?

Would you not think that there is a strong chance that maybe the NCT got it right and that you have been fooled when buying the car?

They won't pass the car unless the mileage is more than the last NCT it went through

    Why?
Is it anywhere in the NCT manual, that lower odometer reading than on previus NCT is a fail.
    I don't think so.

hurt to read, typo Im sure
but the mileage may not be correct, just shows the current odometer reading

100% wrong!! They will NOT pass a car with an incorrect mileage

I am not talking about ownership if the car I am talking about ownership of the NCT contract!!!!!

    Back on track please

    Im 99% sure your wrong.
the nct dont care what mileage is on the car now.

They will just give you a new cert with the current mileage on it .

All reasons for fail are stated in NCT manual.
Incorrect mileage is not one of them. Or at least I couldn't find it.

    Seriously?????

I'm not sure about that, before the contract was taken over it was most certainly the case they would not issue a cert if the readings were below previous

Did you just make that up?

The NCT only record the mileage on the odometer when the test is done. They do not compare the mileage against any other database not even their own one.

I have it on good authority that the above statement is male cow excrement. Mileage is manually entered on the day as a required field, no comparison or other action required.

    So I'm told.

They don't, or at least the old company don't retain/ compare odometer readings.

My grandfather had a 97 Corolla, and after it's first NCT, the cert came out with a mileage reading of 120,000 miles. The car had 12,000 miles on the clock.

Next NCT was done three years later when he gave me the car, and only another 5,000 miles driven. No questions asked about the car having "lost" 103,000 miles from the odometer since it's last test.

And in relation to getting a reprint of a cert with correct mileage, my grandfather noticed the error when he got home. Rang NCT centre same day, but the said they couldn't print a cert at that stage. He should have checked before he had left the test centre. But they would be happy to give him a new cert with correct mileage, if he retested the car.

    In summary, you'll be grand.

It' only illegal to sell a clocked car, so technically I can go out and wind my 96k Van back to 40k and NCT it legally.

It only becomes illegal if I try to then sell the van as only having 40k miles.

I thought it was only illegal to knowingly misrepresent the mileage? As in false advertising. If you don't know or if you tell the buyer you can't guarantee the mileage then you are ok.
