See the instrument Jonny Greenwood is playing:

I understand this is a modern version of a Ondes Martenot, and I realise that his set-up is probably very expensive.

Given that I am not rich, how could I hope to replicate this.

I don't want one of these:

And I have found this (French Connection):

Which is really great, but I am wondering if there are options less than £1000.

    Thanks.

Looks like what you need is a "Ribbon Controller" hooked upto a Synth.

Some keyboards come with ribbon controllers, but they're usually only a about 3 or 4 inches long, and may be over sensitive for your needs.

The manufacturer Jagle mentioned do them:

Maybe you could add on a lickle doepfer module to go with it.

I think you'll need some kind of oscillator or tone generator that is capable of making a sine wave to get the Radiohead sound.

An alternative might be to use an iPad? There's bound to be a Ribbon controller app out there.

If youre into electronics and want to D.I.Y.

Jonny controls an Analogue Systems synth with the French Connection controller, I think the most important thing here is the interface... Regardless of how good your samples or whatever are from things like the Sonic Couture product, all the Ondes 'sound' is in the feel. And that's not just the ribbon, it's the block for the volume as well.

But you might be able to get somewhere near with a ribbon controller and a volume pedal? Or even a keyboard monosynth with appropriately set portamento and a volume pedal. But that wouldn't allow for the delicious vibrato you'll probably want to play...

Get a French Connection (I don't know of any other Ondes Martenot controllers...) and a little synth like a Kraftzwerg or Dark Energy or something? Or a CV-MIDI converter?

    Would this be suitable?

I already have keyboards, VSTs and controllers so I reckon this could be what I am looking for, while being affordable. In the meantime, I can save for the French Connection.

    This?

I seemed to have missed that above.

Yeah, also nice. Although the EOWAVE does have it's own sound, as well as being a controller. It's good to have options, I think.

    Has anyone used these?
