ID help with large fly please

    I photographed this guy a couple of weeks ago in Wicklow. Anyone have any ideas, very large, about same size as a one euro coin....Thanks..

    Krusty, I think it looks too evil to be a hoverfly. I still think horsefly but I could be wrong

    Don't think you can ID to species from photo

    Hi,

    Female Horse fly (family Coreidae), a frontal view would confirm a bit more. Its amazing how close you can get to these.
