A charity organisation working to prevent suicide has said it has seen a 40% increase in the number of people wanting their help during the first six months of this year.

Pieta House, which is based in Dublin, said the recession is a "major factor" in the rise in people considering suicide.

The figures are being released as suicide awareness week gets underway this week.

Damn, that is some pretty ****ed up stuff.

you cant win, if people call the numbers go up, if they die they shout about no one listening to them and something must be done

When you're sad & when you're lonely & you haven't got a friend, just remember that death is not the end.

That doesn't necessarily indicate a rise in people considering suicide.
There might (hopefully) just be a rise in people seeking help.

Recession, main cause for the rise, probably.

Never really got why people would kill themselves over money worries/ financial issues. I mean, fu'k it, its only money. depression, fair enough. You might be in a really dark place, and see no way out, but killing yourself because you cant provide for your family? Thats really going to help...

Sadly, some people choose this opinion because they think it will stop them from burdening their family financially.

Its posts like this that make me wish there was a dislike button...

money/financial worries are a major cause of people considering suicide, I would say second after depression. worries of how to keep a roof over their kids head. food on the table and the rest. I am one of the lucky ones but some people have it bad, if you have listened to the radio lately SVDP has said calls for help are sky high...
    its very sad really

A husband or indeed wife will feel under pressure to provide
If I can't provide for my family what kind of man am I?.. kind of logic
A burden, better off without me

I had a look at my employment contract the other day. If I die in service my next of kin which I suppose are my parents get the unbelievable sum of 200K.
Huge sum of money, I couldn't believe it.
And I'm a pleb at the bottom, no high flying executive

Car, no seat belt, speed into a wall.
I bet it's going on with single vehicle accidents but just can't be proved. Have a look at your contract, you probably have similar

I believe credit unions write off loans when the account holder dies. And I don't realy understand life assurance but that's a factor too

I think you should think about it a bit more, im invisible

It just seems (is) a very 'final' thing to do over money, i can understand the logic behind it, kind of, but you kill yourself, and thats it, no more you. As i said, i can understand if the person was suffering from depression for a long time, and could see no other way out...
I used to work for a guy who later got caught for tax evasion, walked into the sea and killed himself, his kids were grown up, but still, its a pretty messed up thing to do

+1 I'd put money on it.

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.
