I'm a 2nd year science student, i have failed a repeat exam, second semester of biochemistry, so i'm just wondering what happens next? Will i have to repeat the year of biochemistry and then progress to 3rd year the following year and also what type of fees do i have to pay for repeating the year?
    Cheers

Have you looked into seeing if you can carry this subject into third year?. The best thing is to contact your tutor and ask their advice

Do you have any compensation credits?

You could try and appeal the result if your not too far off 40% to get into 3rd year. But you won't find out if you have until October. And the cost to repeat is €2350 I think

You can repeat the subject as an external student - same fee as an ordinary repeat exam. This way, you will NOT have to repeat the year. Just arrange with them beforehand.

I was told like 2 weeks ago that we we're not allowed repeat externally this year, which is a joke really, (especially considering that there is so much conflicting information on the website.)

In that case, transfer to another University/I.T doing the same course/similar course. Do NOT go ahead and repeat the entire year at NUIG because you will be liable for the full fee.

You need to check and confirm with a second person whether you can repeat externally or not. The management of NUIG are known to be inept and inefficient.

Worth noting if you have to repeat because of being out sick over the year, they will waive the repeat fee. You'll need plenty of doctors notes etc. Happened me one year, not many know about it.

I'm in the same boat myself. Does anyone know who the best person to talk to in this situation? I only want to sit the exam in May so it seems ridiculous that I've to pay E2350 and not the standard E200 for repeating an exam.

Dean of the faculty is the person to talk to.

Dean of the faculty is the person to talk to.

or the Education Officer in the SU for advice.

Same thing happened to me in first year. I was allowed proceed into second year and repeated the first year exam again at the end of second year. So technicially i had passed second year before actually passing first year. Confusing, yes. But at least I didnt have to repeat the whole year just because of one tiny module!!!:p
