Looking at buying this laptop or something in around this price. Going to be used for everyday use. Internet, skype, watching movies, listening to music, in addition to general use like microsoft office. Size of the hard-drive isn't an issue as an external drive can be used. Looked up the AMD processor and it seemed reasonably fast - is this the case. Any feedback would be appreciated.

    Thanks

Your needs for a laptop aren't really high at all, so really, any modern enough laptop would be fine for you. But I'm not really up to date with AMD's laptop CPU's but the one listed in that laptop doesn't strike me as powerful at all!

Would you consider a second hand laptop off Adverts.ie or DoneDeal.ie? You would be able to find a good laptop for your budget there.

I could be wrong though, maybe the CPU in that laptop is great.

The chip sucks although it'd probably do ya, AMD wise I wouldn't go below an Athlon II or a Sempron II myself. It has a graphics Card, but it's ranked lower than Intel Integrated Graphics.

That Lappy is €407 ex VAT so it's €480ish yea?

    Any
    of
    these
    is
    better.
    .....

    Handy comparison sites.

that comparison site you gave notebookcheck.net has the i3 390m listed as the best i3 processor on the market whereas this one cpubenchmark.net has it listed as the lowest i3 in the high end cpu's page

one of these website has to be wrong or am i just not understanding the sites correctly? & wouldn't a 2nd gen mobile i3 be a better cpu than a 1st gen mobile one?

The performance leaps from generation to generation are not so great that the least powerful second generation i3s will overtake the most powerful i3s from the previous one. For two broadly comparible CPUs what you are getting is lower power consumption, better integrated graphics and improved relative performance (~10-15%) for about the same price.

If you look at the i3-370m and the i3-2310m which are a first and second generation i3s respectively, they have almost identical CPU performance but due to architectural improvements the second generation i3-2310 does so off a clock speed of 2.1GHz compared to the clock speed of 2.4GHz for the i3-370m, as stated above the i3-2310 will also have the better GPU and lower power consumption.

you used notebookcheck.net as well is it just that there's more info on it compared to cpubenchmark.net or is it a more reliable site?

Much of a muchness really, I mean different different sites will produce slightly different relative rankings but you can be sure that they will probably be 98-99% identical bar a few close calls here and there.

I do look at both site but really just picked used notebookcheck.net because it has a better presentation really . (Although CPUbenchmark includes desktop CPUs as well which is also be handy).

yeah i seen that. For the mobile i3's your still probably better off getting a 2nd though aren't you?

The integrated graphics in them would be alright for most things except heavy gaming & video editing wouldn't they
