Thus is just a basic question and not a complaint that Im hoping to get an answer to but I was wondering do hotels alow you to check your name in at reception but not access the room at the check intime stipulated on their website i.e 2pm. Basically I am getting an early morning flight to Manchester next weekend at 7am and am booked in for one night stay at a hotel at Manchester airport so would rather check intheir when I get to the airport and then head on my merry way to Manchester city center. I don't intend to return to the airpoirt until very late that evening so I just wanted to know would I be refused checking in at say 9am or earlier?

If they have a room clean and ready they'll give it to you but if the hotel was full the night before and there's nothing free, they won't. Most hotels have a place to store your bags though so even if they don't let you check in, they'll hold your bags until you do check in later.

The only people who will be able to tell you are the hotel.

Ring them and ask can you check in early, worst case they will hold onto your bags.

Ive turned up at a hotel around noon and they wouldnt let us check in, but they took our bags and told us to come back in a couple of hours as the room wasnt ready.

You'll have no problem checking in and having them mind your bags til later.

I've never had an issue, especially at airport hotels who would be well used to such a request.
